Award as “Best Employee of the Nation in the Category of Physically disabled persons”. The award was given by Hon’ble President of India, Shri A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on 3rd Dec 2005.
Mr. Bindumadhav B Katti, suffers from Cerebral Palsy since birth. It is a brain related “Cerebral Artery” disability. People with this kind of disability are considered as severely disabled with mental disorder. He has severe involuntary tremors in all his body all the time.
Since his childhood till his age of 7, he was not able to walk and talk hence he had to be carried on shoulders to school. He studied up to std 4 in a nearby Marathi School in Dombivali. His parents shifted their residence to Santa Cruz where the nearest school was an English medium school, and therefore, he had to start school academics all over again from std 1 in English medium.
Doctors and parents felt that he may not go a long way in acquiring qualification due to cerebral retardation. He was adviced to learn skills like broom making and basket making for his living by their family doctor.
Despite these limitations, he requested his parents to allow him to acquire higher education after clearing his SSC examinations.
Because of his tenacity and perseverance, today he is an MBA, specialized in Human Resource Development and post graduation in Systems Analysis from the University of Mumbai. He has been guiding students for last 15 years to maximize utilization of human potentials, gifted by GOD.
During his academic years, his physical limitations were always a hurdle which he braved with his will power and help from his parents, brother, seniors and office friends.
During all his examinations he had to sought assistance of university approved writers’. These writers were many a STD lower to the examination that Mr. Bindumadhav Katti had appeared. It was indeed a difficult task, while co-coordinating with writer for solving problems related to Mathematics, Graphs, Statistics and Analysis etc.
His dedication, hard work, his positive approach towards life, voluntarily accepting the work and his attitude towards his superiors and colleagues has led him to this most prestigious National Award.
He joined Air India, on April 28, 1988 and is presently working, as Asst. Manager – Finance “Computer Cell”.
Along with his academics, his interest in sports was similar to that of any other school goers. Despite his disability he played foot ball for School Team.
He is regularly invited, as a H.R.D. faculty to New India Assurance Co. Ltd., Punjab National Bank and SBI for their Corporate Training Programs, since last 6 years. The training areas covered under this program are Communication skills, Motivation, Marketing Strategies, Behavioral Aspects, Salesmanship, Customer Services, Stress Management, Art of Positive Thinking, Power of Mind and Computers.
